Following on from the success of ‘Known Unknowns: the demand for higher level skills from business’, which established the extent and nature of demand for higher level skills from businesses in the East Midlands, CFE has continued the research with 'Beyond Known Unknowns: a further exploration of the demand for higher level skills from businesses'.
This stage of the research involved focus groups with employers to explore their perceptions, attitudes and experiences of higher level skills. Ten focus groups were held in each of the sub-regions of the East Midlands with businesses that had undertaken higher level skills training during the past 12 months and those that had not.
The research objectives were to explore how businesses define and perceive higher level skills, why businesses choose to undertake (or not undertake) higher level skills training, how businesses prefer higher level skills training to be delivered and how much businesses are prepared pay for higher level skills training.
The information generated from the focus groups will be used by HEIs across the region to inform the development of their higher level skills offer to businesses.
The research report ‘Beyond Known Unknowns: a further exploration of the demand for higher level skills from businesses’ has now been published and can be found here.
