Contribution of FE Providers to Local Priorities

Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS)

CFE was commissioned by the Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS) to carry out a research project entitled 'Identifying the Contribution of FE Providers to Local Priorities, Partners and Places' which aims to investigate the further education sector’s role in shaping strong, inclusive communities and delivering better outcomes for learners, employers and communities.

The research objectives were to explore:

  • What the sector currently delivers on, both for and with its community;
  • Further opportunities for the sector to broaden its role in its community (often as the interface between the public and private sectors);
  • How FE providers might adopt locally agreed indicators within their own improvement strategy, and;
  • How the sector can move from ’being responsive’ to ‘becoming an intelligent influencer’ within local government.

Information generated from provider and partner surveys, in-depth interviews, case studies and a national survey contributed to:

  • the development of an evidence base,a n analysis of the challenges and effective strategies involved in achieving  successful engagement;
  • an analysis of  the challenges for strategic planning and delivery in partnership, and;
  • the provision of learning opportunities for the sector and partners.
