Employment and Skills Boards

CFE, with the support of four national departments - DWP, BERR, DIUS and CLG have carried out work to explore the issues facing Employment and Skills Boards (ESBs).

The Review of Sub-National Economic Development and Regeneration advocated Employment and Skills Boards ‘to strengthen the employer voice’ in influencing and informing the skills and employment agenda at local level. However, despite much activity there is a lack of available information on where ESBs (or similar) currently exist and what works in establishing and operating an ESB - particularly in ensuring added value and streamlining current arrangements.

CFE drew on their expertise in qualitative research, mapping and knowledge of employer engagement to extensively consult with regions on the current landscape and the employment and skills agenda in their areas.
