Participatory Budgeting Self-Evaluation Framework
Participatory Budgeting Unit (PBU) and Bradford University

CFE has worked with the PBU and Bradford University’s International Centre for Participation Studies (ICPS) to consult on the development of a self-evaluation framework for Participatory Budgeting (PB) in the UK.

The project was designed to bring together economic and community development frameworks to develop a methodology and guiding principles for undertaking PB self-evaluation. CFE undertook in-depth consultations with organisations leading on PB pilot projects to assess their initial motivations, ongoing needs and views on suitable evaluation frameworks.

The project also included a literature review of existing empowerment evaluation frameworks - to be fed into the final recommendations. The research culminated in a discussion forum. PB experts and academics will consider the feed-back from pilot areas and make recommendations on moving forwards with an appropriate evaluation framework.

For a more in-depth look at PB, please see CFE’s explanatory think piece on the subject, 'Participatory Budgeting: From Brazil to Britain.'
