CFE provided project management support to the Learning and Skills Council National Office from April 2005 to July 2008.
The Skills Coaching trials offered a service for those over the age of 20, not in employment, where a lack of skills was the main reason for their unemployment. The service was primarily targeted at customers accessing inactivity benefits and was made up of a customer journey with a series of interventions including; a meeting to check suitability, a skills diagnostic, development plan, skills passport, learning brokerage, in-learning health-check and progress interview.
The service was provided by Skills Coaches, who predominantly worked for nextstep or other Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) providers and were often co-located in Jobcentre Plus offices.
CFE provided the following support to LSC National Office and trial areas:
It is hoped that lessons learnt from a number of elements of the Skills Coaching customer journey including Skills Check and Skills Passport can be taken forward in the development of Skills Accounts, Skills Health Checks and the Adult Advancement and Careers Service (AACS) as a whole.
More information about the project can be found in the the Skills Coaching trials case study.
