Third Sector engagement with the Apprenticeship programme

Learning and Skills Council, South East

CFE was commissioned by the LSC South East to undertake research to identify the key operational principles and good practice in promoting and delivering apprenticeships to voluntary and community sector employers. This research also assessed the barriers that need to be addressed, so that the region can develop and implement a strategy to engage the sector in the National Apprenticeship Service. The research also helped to gain a greater understanding of the nature and extent of voluntary and community sector apprenticeship provision in the South East and in other LSC regions to find best practice.

The project involved primary and secondary research. This included a review of relevant literature and secondary analysis of existing data and information regarding apprenticeships. The primary research included interviews with key stakeholders and the development of 10 case studies based on structured interviews with representatives of Third Sector organisations.

The work culminated in a final report to present findings and practical recommendations. The findings and recommendations informed the development of the South East Plan ‘Driving Up Demand for Apprenticeships’.

The final report can be found here.
